The Ribbon of the Operation Strong Cliff is an Israeli appreciation awarded by the IDF or the Defense Ministry for participants in Operation Strong Cliff.

Under the decisions of the Ministerial Committee for Symbols and Ceremonies, Because of the nature of this war, and deep involvement of civilians in the rear, this ribbon will be awarded to civilians as was with the second Lebanon War ribbon  unlike other war ribbons of the State of Israel.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon, recommended to the Ministerial Committee on Symbols and Ceremonies Presentation to create the ribbon although the operation was not recognized as a war, because of the number of troops involved in the fighting, and because of its duration. "This is the eighth Israeli war Ribbon and awarded the first time for military conflict that is not defined as a war.

The meanings of the ribbons appear colors:

Red - the blood of the fallen,

Orange - Front notation system was damaged in the fighting (Orange is the color of HFC - Home Front Command),

Light Brown - symbols the color of sand in the Gaza Strip,

Blue and White - the colors of Israel national flag.

 The Operation Strong Cliff Protective Edge  (in Hebrew " Miv'tza Tzuk Eitan ") was a military operation in the Gaza Strip that began on July 8, 2014, and ended on August 26 with a cease-fire.

The operation began following the increasing firing of rockets from Gaza on the civilian population in southern Israel, in response to Operation Return brothers "of the army after the abduction of three Israelis boys by Hamas on June 12.

The first step of the operation included especially heavy bombardment of the Israeli Air Force, the armored corps and artillery in to the Gaza Strip, even though Israel has suffered rocket fire from Gaza and deal with the infiltration of armed terrorists into its territory from the Gaza Strip by sea or through tunnels.

 In the second stage, which began on July 17, the IDF entered ground forces into Gaza in order to harm the terror tunnels.

In the third stage, which began on August 5 the IDF completed exit ground forces from the Strip, but fighting continued in the form of the first stage. During the operation, there were 12 attempts at mediation and to achieve a cease-fire, when most of the attempts were made by Israel, but were rejected by Hamas.

The operation ended after 50 days of fighting, with the determination of the ceasefire.

Operation name "the rock in" selected by the head of the south front of the IDF Operations Division, with the guidance of the Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz.
